In the paths of His commands.

"Show me your ways, O Lord, teach me your paths. Guide me in your truth and teach me, for you are God my Saviour and my hope is in you all day long." Psalm 25: 4-5

Realizing that we are under-equipped to navigate the wilderness of life is the point of departure for any journey with Jesus. Our society is the most effective ever in persuading us that we, but for the inputs from a few experts, can master anything life can throw at us. I was to learn that not only are the paths of God well-hidden and exposed only when illuminated by the dim light of grace and mercy; BUT that navigating the paths themselves require His assistance. Constantly! ("… a light unto my feet")

Over time, these became the most treasured moments of my day; times when visions were birthed, confessions made and new insights learnt. Spending time with Jesus is in itself an expression of dependency upon God, thus one of the most profound attitudes a father can ever expose his kids to. I do my early-morning devotions with my door wide open for all in our house to see and hear. It is not uncommon for one of our boys to peep into my study during these times; just checking to see what dad is up to at this time of the "night!" I love it when they do this, trusting that seeing me seeking my Fathers' face and how it effects my and ultimately their lives, will one-day lure them into doing the same.

Knowing that his family wake up every morning with him pounding on heaven's door for wisdom' precepts and insights to keep him and his family in the sweet-spot of His Will, is undoubtedly one of the most reassuring, faith-inspiring, marriage-saving; legacy-leaving and honour-boosting activities any dad can ever indulge in!

"I run in the path of your commands, for you have broadened my understanding." Psalm 119:32
